Who can apply for a Juniper MasterCard Prepaid Card?

In compliance with the USA PATRIOT Act* and other laws, you must be a US resident over 18 with a valid social security number and a verifiable physical US address (no PO boxes or APO addresses) to apply for a Juniper Prepaid Card. Currently we do not issue cards to residents of NH, NY, RI, Puerto Rico or other US territories. Other exclusions may apply.

How long will it take to receive my card?

Upon successful identification verification* and approval, your Juniper Card should arrive within 7-10 business days.

Is the Juniper Card a credit card?

No. To spend money you must load money onto your Juniper Card. To load, you can add cash at participating retail partners, or direct deposit. When you use the Juniper Card, the amount of your purchase is deducted from the loaded balance.

How can I add money to my Juniper Card?

A checkDirect Deposit: Direct Deposit is the best way to add money to your card. Direct deposit is free to enroll and money will be automatically added to your card on payday. Once you enroll in direct deposit the monthly fee is waived. Send your payroll, Social Security, pension or other recurring payments to your Juniper card. To enroll in direct deposit, login to your card account and click ‘Direct Deposit’ to download a form and submit it to your employer or government benefits office.

Retail Load: You can also add cash at thousands of Green Dot and Western Union locations. Use our Store Locator to find a location in your area.

    Retail Cash Load Fee: $4.95

    1. Purchase a Green Dot MoneyPak at one of thousands of Green Dot locations near you ($20 – $500)
    2. Go to our site and enter the number found on the back of the MoneyPak. Or call 1-800-GREENDOT (1-800-473-3636) and enter the MoneyPak number to reload your Card.
    3. The value of this reload is immediately available on your Card.
  • Western Union logoTo add cash at a Western Union® location

    Retail Cash Load Fee: $3.95

    1. Visit a Western Union Agent location and complete the gray Western Union Prepaid Services / SwiftPay form using the following information:
      • Account Number: your 16-digit Juniper Card number
      • Pay To Company: Juniper MasterCard Prepaid Card
      • Amount: cash you want to load
        ($10 minimum, $950 maximum)
    2. Give cash, completed form, and Retail Cash Load Fee to the Western Union Agent (no Checks or credit cards accepted).
    3. Keep the receipt for your records.
    4. Your funds will be posted to your Juniper Card account in 10–15 minutes.

Can I pay bills online?

Yes. You can use your Juniper Card anywhere MasterCard Debit is accepted including for online and over-the-phone purchases.

The Juniper Card also has a complete bill-pay service. You can send a one-time or recurring electronic payment to thousands of billers listed in our database, or send a paper check to anyone. Since the payment amount is immediately deducted from your available balance, you will never incur a bounced check fee.

How do I view my account activity?

You can view all account transactions by logging into your Juniper Card account online and selecting "Account Details". The Account Details screen shows transaction history, spending summary and available balance.

What happens if I return something I purchased with my Juniper Card?

When you return something purchased with your Juniper Card, the merchant will credit the amount of the return to your account. Because returns are handled via the merchant’s bank, credits may take 2–3 business days to appear in your Juniper Card account.

If my Juniper Card is lost or stolen, can somebody use it?

Unfortunately yes. So if your Juniper Card is lost or stolen, contact the Juniper toll-free account information line at 1-866-532-9634 . Enter your account information, then follow the prompts to report your card "Lost" or "Stolen," you can deactivate your Juniper Card to prevent unauthorized use. If you don’t have your Juniper Card number contact customer service at 1-866-532-9634 to deactivate your Juniper Card.

If your Juniper Card has been lost or stolen, a replacement Juniper Card will automatically be issued for a Replacement Card Fee of $5.00.

How do I report fraud on my Juniper Card?

In the case of suspected fraud, contact the Juniper customer service at 1-866-532-9634.

How do I check my current balance?

Go to our site and login. Click the Account Details option. The Account Details screen shows transaction history, spending summary and available balance. You can also contact the toll-free account information line at 1-866-532-9634 to get your balance.

What if I disagree with my balance total?

Inform customer service via secure email by logging in and clicking 'Contact Us'. Or, call customer service at 1-866-532-9634.

What is the Personal Identification Number (PIN)?

The PIN is a four-digit number that is used when making purchases and obtaining cash. We recommend you keep this number safe; do not keep it in your wallet, or write it on the Juniper Card.

You will need your PIN if you select "Debit" when you swipe your Juniper Card, but not if you select "Credit". Also, the ATM console will require you to input your PIN when withdrawing money.

You can personalize your PIN by contacting the toll-free account information line at 1-866-532-9634 or online. When you personalize your PIN, choose a number that you are familiar with so you don't easily forget it.

What if I forget my PIN?

Visit our site and login. Click on Update Profile and choose Change Card PIN Number, or contact customer service at 1-866-532-9634; they can help you reset and choose a new PIN.

How do I close my Juniper Card account?

Please contact customer service at 1-866-532-9634. You can transfer your remaining balance to another account, or have us send you a check in the mail. You also have the option to withdraw your funds at an ATM (fees included). You will need to send us your Juniper Card or destroy it. Send your Juniper Card to us at PO Box 71402 Salt Lake City, UT 84171.

Will I receive a monthly statement?

It's your choice. You can access your statement online for free at any time. Go to our site and login. Click Account Details. The Account Details screen shows transaction history, spending summary and available balance.

If you would like a monthly statement mailed to you, contact customer service at 1-866-532-9634. A fee of $3.95 per statement will apply.

When are customer service representatives available?

Juniper Card customer service representatives are available by calling 1-866-532-9634 Monday through Friday from 8 am to 8 pm and Saturday from 9 am to 5 pm Mountain Standard Time. You can also access your account balance or transaction history, report your Juniper Card lost or stolen, pay bills and charge long distance calls to your account 24 hours a day by calling the Juniper toll-free account information line at 1-866-532-9634.

Where can I use the Juniper Card?

The Juniper Card is accepted wherever MasterCard debit cards are accepted worldwide. However, some car rental companies and hotels do not accept prepaid MasterCard cards.

Can I use the Juniper Card to make reservations at hotels?

It depends on the hotel. When you make a reservation at a hotel it is called an 'open end transaction'. That means the total amount due is unknown. The hotel has the right to authorize more than the initial payment to cover damages that could occur during your stay. The hotel can place a hold on these funds for 30 days. Many times the card will not have sufficient funds to cover additional charges; for this reason some hotels do not accept prepaid cards. However, some hotels will accept prepaid cards under special rules; therefore, we recommend you first call the hotel and inquire about their prepaid card policy.

Can I use the Juniper Card to rent a car?

It depends on the rental agency. When you make a car reservation it’s called an 'open end transaction'. That means the total amount due is unknown. The agency has the right to authorize more than the initial payment to cover fuel refills or damages that occurred during your rental.

They can place a hold on these funds for 90 days. Many times the card will not have sufficient funds to cover additional charges; for this reason some car rental agencies do not accept prepaid cards. However, some will accept prepaid cards under special rules; therefore, we recommend you first call the rental agency and inquire about their prepaid card policy.

Can I use the Juniper Card to purchase gas at the pump?

Yes, but to pay at the pump you must have a $75 balance. If you don't have a $75 balance your card will be declined. If you want to buy gas without a $75 balance, go inside and have the cashier enter the amount you would like to buy.

Can I spend more money than I have on the card?

No. Your Juniper Card will be accepted only if you have loaded enough money onto the Juniper Card to cover what you buy.

How secure is my account information?
